Purpose: Costa Rica is a magical, diverse place with many dynamic choices for visitors. This document presents flexible pricing options with careful explanations, so that a custom designed vacation can be created for you, from your informed choices.

How to use this document: Read through the explanations of the price ranges of options and how they affect your itinerary. Choose a price range. Email us back informing us what price range and travel style suits you.

We then custom fit an itinerary that reflects your choices.

Before you make a price range choice, you need to know...

We custom design vacations in 3 price ranges:

Luxury USD $450 - $900+ per person, per day
Upscale USD $300 - $449 per person, per day
Classic USD $200 - $299 per person, per day

All of these price range categories are customized, personalized vacations.

At times, even cheaper than classic travel options exist as highly affordable non-customized package with limited availability. Those pieces are not customized, personalized vacations with travel planners.

Not all parts of your vacation have to be in the same price range.

(That's part of the beauty of a customized itinerary.)

We custom design vacations in two "styles".

All travel options can stay in 1 price range — For a vacation of this style, all the elements of the vacation (lodging, food, guides, transportation) have a similar traveling style, level of sophistication, and price range.
A "Mix and Match" of experiences pulling from different styles is also possible — Perhaps skimping on some facets or some days and splurging on others is appropriate for you. That can be accommodated by an experienced travel planner. For example, some nights at a basic wilderness camp and some nights at a luxury resort. Another example is, affordable lodging but with an expensive guide or 1-hour helicopter.

Examples of Mixing and Matching:

We have designed itineraries for travelers who have spent 2/3 of their vacation experiencing the rain forest or looking for wildlife in remote areas spending and average of USD $200 per person per day and the last 1/3 of their vacation a luxury beach resort spending an average of USD $800 per person per day.
We have designed USD $850 per person per day itineraries for travelers who spent USD $100 a day on lodging and USD $600 a day on guides, transportation and activities. (if you noticed that this doesn’t add up, we were just checking to see if you were reading it carefully).
We have designed USD $700 a day itinerary for travelers who spent USD $500 a day on lodging and USD $200 a day on transportation and activities.

Price Range Descriptions

You will need to choose which price range suits you, and whether you have a uniform or a "mix and match" travel style.

Some assumptions are made. Prices are per person per day based on two people traveling together and sharing a room. Airfare within Costa Rica is included if your itinerary requires it, so that there are no surprises. International airfare to Costa Rica, however, is not included, because that varies considerably based on when and where you travel from, and is commonly arranged for by you, separately.

When more than two people travel together and/or share a room the price per person per day is considerably less. Solo travelers pay considerably more.

Multiply the price range that best suits you by the number of days in Costa Rica (including your arrival and departure days) to give an approximate price per person.

USD $450 - $900+ per person, per day Luxury Vacations

USD $300 - $449 per person, per day Upscale Vacations

USD $200 - $299 per person, per day Classic Vacations

For each option, sample prices have been included for itineraries of common lengths, with sample calculations included with sample totals.

Option #1 — Luxury Vacations:

Price per Person per Day USD $450-$900+

Luxury itineraries include the most exclusive and remote lodges, boutique beach resorts or luxury brand name properties in Costa Rica.

Combination of private ground transportation and private charter flights. At the USD 900+ price range, helicopters, private planes or catamarans may be used.

Often include customized private activities.

Professional naturalist, multisport or photography guides when appropriate.

Most meals, one or more special dining experiences.

Sample Prices:

An 8 Day Itinerary in the Luxury Price Range is USD $3,600 - $7,200+ per person.

A 10 Day Itinerary in the Luxury Price Range is USD $4,500 - $9,000+ per person.

*Note: Rates for Christmas, New Years and Easter are normally 15-30% higher.

Option #2 — Upscale Vacations

Price per Person per Day $300-$449

Uses a combination of the best lodges and beach resorts. Depending on the other components of your vacation (activities, guides, transportation) may include one or more lodges that are more standard.
Mostly private but may use some shared ground transportation.
A combination of domestic and shared charter flights.
2-3 activities per location.
Often include a professional naturalist, multisport or photography guide for a portion of your itinerary.
Meals at locations where there are no other dining options. May include a special dining experience.

An 8 Day Itinerary in the Upscale Price Range is USD $2,400 - $3,592 per person.

A 10 Day Itinerary in the Upscale Price Range is USD $3,000 - $4,490 per person.

Option #3 — Classic Vacations

Price per Person per Day $200 - $299

Spend less on your room, staying at more basic lodges and beach hotels, all are approved by Costa Rica Expeditions for safety, cleanliness and service.
If visiting Tortuguero and Monteverde, standard room category at the best lodges available.
Shared ground transportation or local shuttle.
Domestic flights.
1-2 activities per location with local guides, shared with other guests.
Most breakfasts.

An 8 Day Itinerary in the Classic Price Range is USD $1,600 - $2,392 per person.

A 10 Day Itinerary in the Classic Price Range is USD $2,000 - $2,990 per person.

Also, we’re aware that some travelers to Costa Rica, a custom itinerary isn't a good fit, even though that's our specialty. At times, possibilities exist in the price per person range that are lower, but the options vary, are not always available and they're not customizable.
