This vacation takes you to all points on the compass and to some of Costa Rica’s most remote National Parks. Start in the north with a hike at La Vieja Volcano. Then walk the cloud forests of Monteverde in the central highlands, home of the Resplendent Quetzal from Jan to July. Before heading to the eastern coast take an exhilarating one-day rafting expedition on continuous Class III-IV rapids (min. age 12 years). Begin your trip on Costa Rica's North Atlantic Coast near Tortuguero National Park, one of the last large areas of tropical rainforest in Central America. Here too is an important sea turtle nesting beach, where from June to Oct. thousands of turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. After exploring Tortuguero, head to the Arenal area to view the active volcano. You will also explore the cloud forests of Monteverde and perhaps observe the elusive and beautiful Resplendent Quetzal (Jan.-July only). Your last few days will be in Manuel Antonio on the Pacific Coast. This is an activity-filled trip that takes you from the highlands of Arenal and Monteverde to the coral reefs of Isla del Caño. You will begin in Arenal with a float trip on the Peñas Blancas River. Then walk the Hanging Bridges trails and soak in a natural hot springs in the shadow of the volcano. In Monteverde, you'll hike with a naturalist guide through the Cloud Forest and from January to July - depending upon your luck and patience - you may observe the Resplendent Quetzal in its natural habitat.
