WHAT THE GUIDEBOOKS SAY Christopher Baker, 2008: "Conceived and designed by Venezuelan–born owner Boris Marchegiani, and opened to great fanfare in 2006, flashy newcomer Gaia Hotel and Reserve is already considered by many to be the best luxury hotel in Costa Rica. Set high above the roller–coaster Quepos–Manuel Antonio road, this gleaming white post–modernist hotel clings to a steep hillside, with the 5.7 hectare forest reserve sprawling down the far valley. Guests park in a lot beside a floodlit waterfall at the base of the hill and are ferried up and down aboard golf carts."
Travel & Leisure, Apr 2006: “Gaia Hotel & Reserve, near Manuel Antonio, is Costa Rica's latest luxe addition. Guests are given a private butler for laundry, room service, and arranging tours—though many are content to simply drink in the view of the Pacific from the dark-wood, clean-lined rooms.”
Mary Nicklin, The Informed Traveler, 2006: “This tropical boutique property is situated among the lush coastal rainforests of the Pacific coast. The terraced suites and villas overlook these incredible natural surroundings, a pristine nature reserve packed with exotic wildlife and chattering white-faced monkeys. This is a luxurious retreat, appointed with modern amenities, spa, gym, pool, and private butler service to attend to guests’ every need. Gaia presents eco-tourism at its best, a project designed for the preservation of the natural reserve and protection of local flora and fauna for future generations.”
COSTA RICA EXPEDITIONS DESCRIPTION
Member of the exclusive group, “Small Luxury Hotels of the World.” the hotel's 20 rooms are decorated in a minimalist, modern style, but there’s no skimping on luxuries. There is a three-tiered cascade pool - with a bar in the center - designed to resemble a large waterfall. Wifi throughout the property means you won’t be out of reach, even if all you see out your window is the dense forest of the hotel’s private reserve. Hot climate.
