Red Eyed Tree Frog
Red Eyed Tree Frogs (Agalychnis callidryas) are nocturnal. Their eyes are red, as this color helps them see in the dark. Some believe the bright red eyes also serve as "startle coloration." If awakened in the daytime, as might happen if a predator chanced upon it - despite its excellent day time camouflage - the eyes pop abruptly open, startling a predator and giving them an opportunity to escape.
